So LeBron James wants to become a global marketing icon ? I’m not at a loss to hear this as I’ve always thought it somewhat prophetic to hear many of the NBA’s biggest stars liken themselves as the next big thing in their own way.

As it now stands James is leading, as only he can. He has the fans there in Cleveland eating out of his hands. And across the league he’s either liked or disliked as the case may be. Somehow I’d hazard a guess that were he on a team supported by the naysayers then their resolve and attitude might be somewhat different.. I’m not an apologist for James as he’s entitled to attain the riches that the game and the NBA has to offer.
So in 2010 James will become a free agent and franchises across the league will be scouring to placate James and offer him a king’s ransom. But for now the player has some unfinished business with the Cleveland Cavaliers. As for the franchise itself they’ve got to placate the player and his wants. Now as we all know there’s the talk that the New York Knicks covets the player. Much like Paris Hilton craves a new BFF.
Now as the game stands and the desires of the NBA and their wish to see the resurrection of the franchise. It begs the question will James succumb to the temptations and the allure of the Knicks’ organization and in particular the Big Apple. Truth they say is stranger than fiction. And if there’s any truth being told then is it coming from the lips of the player or from those who only wish to create the rumors that’ll further drive the story ?
James has now been surrounded with the requisite players whom the hierarchy of the Cleveland Cavaliers feel will be enough to supplant the Boston Celtics this year as contenders within the Eastern Conference. But for the moment it is Boston whom the rest of the Eastern Conference are chasing in terms of conference supremacy. The Orlando Magic this season under the leadership of Dwight Howard are making some noise within the conference. And their record speaks for itself as it’s now the second best within the conference percentage wise.
For the moment while the Celtics have been impressive as the season started. Much of the shine and conversation within the Eastern Conference has been the play of LeBron James and the play of his teammates. What has even been more surprising is their impressive home record. They’re unbeaten and as the season progresses we can only look in candor as to their dominance and play on their home court. This bodes well for the team at present but I doubt that the team will be able to play at this level consistently. While he’s ably abetted by the likes of Anderson Varejao, Mo Williams, Ben Wallace, Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Delonte West and Daniel Gibson, of whom it can be said have been playing at a very high level.

Though I do believe that the Cavaliers are good it is however my belief that they’ll make it to the playoffs. As to their aspirations of winning the conference and making it to the NBA Finals. Much of that’ll be predicated on the desire of the player and his teammates. For those players who were part of Team USA in Beijing where they won gold in the men’s basketball competition. We’ve seen a presence about many of them in their play that we’d not witnessed prior. And it’s become apparent in James’ play this season . Which it can be said has been of benefit to his team and the NBA as a whole. It were as if the calming influence of Mike Krzyzsewski and that of Jerry Colangelo have the players showing a great deal more maturity in their basketball intellect.
This does bode well for the game domestically as well as internationally. For James this will be a telling year as to his own ambitions and that of the Cavaliers collectively. Should they fail to make it to the conference finals then there’s a very distinct possibility that the player will leave the franchise in search of pastures green. And while we know that the player has to do what benefits him not only professionally but financially as well. This will be the make or break season for the player and the franchise whichever way one looks at it. For coach Mike Brown it may well be a season that he’d rather forget. It’s good that you’ve arguably one of the best players to grace the game at present. But with each passing moment it looks as if the more the argument is as to where LeBron James will play. There seems to be an inevitability as to the mere fact that the player will decide to leave the franchise , where he’s made it his home for the last 5 years. The press has made the story a staple if its surmising as to James’ future. And if nothing else fans of the game have bought into it all and have even made their own assessment as to LeBron’s future.

It sure is good to be the King ! But it does help so much more if you’ve got a crown and a kingdom to actually reign over. And it’d also help if the ruler himself showed some loyalty towards his subjects. Thus far it’s been all about what LeBron wants and what’s best for him. God forbid a player would actually show some loyalty to a franchise that has given him so much. But has asked for so little in return.
