The President and certain members of Congress and the Senate are willing to put it all on the line for health-care reform. And it may or not be a good thing , dependent upon one’s point of view. But if there’s an entity that at present that’s in need of resuscitation, then it would most definitely be the Washington Redskins. Healthcare reform ought to be left to those who thoroughly understand what needs to be done. Considering the administration’s handling of the economy and the war in Afghanistan at present. I’m prepared to say that their attention to details ….. leaves a great deal to be desired !

The lowly Redskins are beginning to circles the sink-hole much like a rotting pile of sewage when it’s ready to be flushed down a drain-hole. And at 2-4 there seems to be no signs of life in this Jim Zorn coached team that seems to have lost all forms of life , discipline and dedication to its craft. One would hate to now think what’s now going through the minds of the Redskins’ fans. Much less, that of former NFL great and Redskins’ running back John Riggins. And suffice to say that, Redskins’ owner , Daniel Snyder‘s blood must now be beginning to boil over. He and VP/ GM Vinny Cerrato have made it plain that Zorn will no longer be in charge of the play calling for the team. But the inherent problems of the Redskins to my mind, goes way beyond the apparent lack of coaching. The Redskins’ roster just isn’t good enough , despite the alleged talent that is said to be on the field of play. They lack heart , creativity, play-makers but above all , they lack leadership both and off the field. And the team is in complete disarray at present.

Zorn gives up offensive play-calling duties for struggling ‘Skins
Head coach Jim Zorn no longer will call plays for the Washington Redskins’ struggling offense.
Zorn and executive vice president of football operations Vinny Cerrato discussed the change during a 1-on-1 meeting Sunday after the Redskins’ 14-6 loss to the previously winless Kansas City Chiefs.
According to Redskins spokesman Zack Bolno, Cerrato told Zorn he believes the coach had too many responsibilities and someone else should run the offense during games. Zorn didn’t disagree with that assessment, Bolno said.
The team planned to announce a new play-caller Monday. NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora reports that it’s expected to be Sherman Lewis, an offensive consultant hired just two weeks ago, because he’s the only other staff member who has called plays and is well versed in the West Coast offense.
The Redskins (2-4) are averaging 13.2 points this season and haven’t scored more than 17 in any game. Against Kansas City, which entered Sunday allowing 27.6 points and 402.8 yards per game, Washington managed just 265 yards of offense and seven first downs and went 2 for 14 on third-down conversions.
“This offense is better than six points, 100 percent. And that’s on me,” Zorn said before the change in his duties was announced. “It’s my fault.”
Zorn tried switching quarterbacks at halftime against the Chiefs, lifting starter Jason Campbell in favor of Todd Collins, who hadn’t played since the end of the 2007 season. Collins led the Redskins to two field goals, but they failed to score a touchdown at home for the second time this season.
Zorn said Campbell was “a little late in hitting some things” and “inaccurate.” Zorn didn’t make clear who will be his quarterback in the next game.
Zorn began his postgame news conference with a loud, lengthy sigh into the microphone. And the coach kept on sighing as he discussed his team’s latest setback, which made Washington 4-10 over its past 14 games.

Sunday’s performance by the team was so lackluster and a complete disappointment to the home fans at Fedex Field in Landover, Maryland. It was so benign that incompetency might too soft a word to describe the team’s play. The resultant 14-6 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs (1-5) must have left those in attendance asking themselves ……….” how many bad teams are there now in the NFL ” At no time throughout the sixty minutes of play could you envisage the Redskins scoring a touchdown. So anemic was their play on offense ! Never-mind the fact that on the defensive side of the ball had the Chiefs been able to actually get anything going on offense , then the Redskins’ may well have also proven to be more of an embarrassment there as well.
And it certainly can’t have escaped those watching the game nationally the game in terms of scoring , essentially had to be relied upon the accuracy of the kickers and a ‘safety’ that was attained when Redkins’ quarterback, Todd Collins was sacked in the endzone in the fourth quarter. And unfortunately this is what the fans in attendance and those watching in the comfort of their homes had to put up with. The NFL’s biggest concern now is what indeed must they do in terms of the onfield product at present ? It’s bad enough that we’re going through an economic crisis and the mere fact that attendances for games are now down in comparison to last year. But with there being so many awful teams at present and the mere fact that they’re playing with the zeal of docile mice should tell us how acute the problems are now within the NFL.
Zorn’s own future now with the Washington Redskins must be hanging by a thread. And it remains to be seen whether or not he’ll meet the same fate as his predecessors. Daniel Snyder has never been known to be a patient man when it comes to the under performance of his coaches. But at this juncture it’s hard to see who he’ll replace Zorn with. I know that there are a number of prime candidates out there at present. Names who come to mind are Tony Dungy, Jon Gruden, Brian Billick , Mike Shanahan, Bill Cowher and no doubt several college coaches at the top of the college football pecking order. But I doubt that any of them might want to have Daniel Snyder as their employer. After all the mess that took place under Steve Spurrier era with the Redskins may well have put to rest that idea. But then again it might , as who knows what runs through the mind of Daniel Snyder from one minute to the next ?
It is my own belief that with this being a bye week for the Redskins. Snyder and Cerrato will start the ball rolling by conducting interviews with various parties whom they deem might well be interested in taking over from Jim Zorn. I do firmly believe that Zorn will be relieved of his duties before this week is out. Unfortunately for Jim Zorn , he just wasn’t the right man for the position as head coach of the Washington Redskins. His presence around the team and the mere fact that he couldn’t even get the players to play with any conviction . Well it would suggest that Zorn just hasn’t got the temperament to be a coach in the NFL. You’ve to be a hell of a lot tougher than he’s shown when conducting his pre and post game interviews. And most certainly he’s got to hold his players accountable for their lack of passion to play the game . Rather than just opining on his own faults . It creates the environment that he was way in over his head ! And from where I sit, that’s the only conclusion that I can come to. And the mere fact that the personnel there in Washington just doesn’t have what it takes to get the job done to begin with.

Jim Zorn was a hell of a quarterback, but he is not ready to be ahead coach in the NFL.
I also think it is quite obvious that Raheem Morris could have used a little more experience before he made the move to head coach.

And that has been something of a problem for a great many owners as they’ve no body of work which to go by when they at times take a first time coach. Especially one who has no college experience much less one who’s not even been a coordinator , much less coach at any level. I think in the case of Cerrato and Snyder they hired Zorn on whim. Rather than look at the guy’s credentials and his body of work. I do believe that before the end of the week , he’ll be shown the door by the team.
As I alluded to in the piece , I think that Snyder and Cerrarto may well have already started the ball roling by lining up candidates for the soon to be vacant position.

I go with Fisher, since the owner has said how bad and how quick it turned. Couple that with the owner has a man crush on Vince and the team is losing WITHOUT playing him means that either VY sees the field, or Fisher better start looking for his next job. (and he wouldn’t have to wait for long….)

My money is Zorn , merely from the standpoint that the team now faces a bye week. And already some of his responsibilities have already been taken away from him. I believe that Snyder will put out feelers to the likes of Gruden , Cohwer and Shanahan to gauge their interest in the soon to be vacant position.
In the case of Fisher , if the Titans do let him go . They’re going to live to regret it ! Their problems aren’t from a coaching standpoint , it’s from the mere fact that the players have lost confidence in Kerry Collins. Never mind the fact that Vince Young is still something of a basket case to begin with. He’s immature and so naive !
So it doesn’t augur well for the team as to their future !

The Skins will porbabaly beat the Eagles this Sunday night so what else is new. The Skins have a habit of killing the eagles. The Eagles got their asses whopped. Zorn will probabaly get fired.

After the embarrassment of losing to the Raiders I think the Eagles will come back and quite possibly put a can of whup a_s on the Redskins. Neither Reid or McNabb want to be further embarrassed at this juncture.
Zorn has been all but relinguished of the majority of his duties. So it shows us all that his time is coming. He’ll probably get the same sort of sweetheart deal given to Spurrier when he got the can .
I’d be completely surprised though if Bud Adams fires the Titans’ Jeff Fisher. It’s not so much Fisher but the attitude of his players . It stinks to high heaven and they’d better do something about it !

Seems about time to throw down the axe on Zorn. It’s sad how they are slowly dismantling his coaching team in front of him. Usually teams will fire the coach before they start making those moves.
You did raise a good point though about how the onfield product in some cases is unwatchable. I feel that this league has always thrived because of parody, and now there is little leaving the league with a bad product. I think they might even be hurting as bad as the NBA financially after the season is over.

I for the life of me can’t understand why he (Zorn) was hired in the first place. He may well have been an above average qb in the NFL. But that in ofitself doesn’t equate to him being a great coach. What is his pedigree to begin with ?
But then again Daniel Snyder has his foibles and nothing is going to change him as an owner. He’s obviously cut from the same mold as Jerry Jones. They both obviously think that they know more about the game than most. Which in reality nothing could be further from the truth. They’re essentially just fairly knowledgeable fans and that’s it ! When it comes to management and personnel they know absolutely nothing at all. I mean what success has either had over the last decade in the NFL ?

Thanks for the link to the piece. And the writer is succinct and to the point. What it boils down to, is the fact that both Cerrato and Snyder are far too smug for their own good. They’re of the opinion that if you throw money at a problem that’s always the best way to solve it. They’ve still not learned a damn thing to begin with. Having Zorn coach a team is like asking Paris Hilton teach a class in advanced calculus. Both are too dumb to understand it all !
But to be sure Zorn will be blown out of his position by the week’s end.
I’d hate to see the Titans’ Jeff Fisher meet the same fate , as that’s a more problem of the team having lost confidence , more than anything else. Once they get a win under their belts it ought to change things for the better !
