Shut the fu#k up and let me finish !

It is something of a distressing time in the world of sports, as the legal ramifications of Aaron Hernandez’s legal menagerie along with his two accomplices, simply reaches all too low levels of what is now seen as a sordid and all too compulsive situation. The NFL has once again been punched in the eye and stomach , though the game is not yet down for the count . Unfortunately, the league hierarchy , team owners and union (NFLPA) simply have not learned a damn thing after this latest incident . So, it would be remiss not to say that there will be another event that will undoubtedly capture the fans and nation`s attention at some point in the future . It will be interesting to see what steps if any will be taken by Roger Goodell and the teams , as things begin to play out . The legal aspects of to this case , are not all that difficult to figure out as it relates to the defendants and how the attorneys for both sides will seek to portray the events leading up to the death of Odin Loyd .

Certainly, the statements now being attributed to New England Patriots` owner Robert Kraft do seem rather petulant and infantile; when one considers that, the franchise drafted the now disgraced Hernandez in 2010 . The front office was simply drooling over the talented player, out of the University of Florida . Gators` head coach Urban Meyer, was said to be pleased with the player`s promotion to the NFL ranks . Yet, what it did, was to hide a deep underlying trait of deviant behavior, by several players on the Gators` roster from that season . It was also the willingness of Meyer`s staff and that of AD Jeremy Foley to completely turn a blind eye to the misdeeds of Aaron Hernandez and others over the course of Meyer`s reign , as the coach of the football program.

The fact that Robert Kraft is now seeking to suggest that e and the Patriots` organization were duped by Aaron Hernandez and the player`s agent , simply speaks to the inane stupidity of the NFL , the owners and the front office staffs around the league . At what point were the staff of Bill Belichick and GM Nick Caserio not aware of Aaron Hernandez`s prior entanglements with law enforcement and what sort of in-depth background checks were actually in place and used by this now once reputable franchise ?

As an avid New England Patriots` fan , now watching the inner most revelations , now coming to the fore and placing an even bigger blight on its image as well as that of the NFL. It was one thing to see the idiocy of the management in allowing the team`s most productive player over the past five seasons, when Wes Welker was allowed to leave. Yet, here was Robert Kraft, once again seeking to apportion blame elsewhere, because of the inane stupidity shown by Nick Caserio and the coaching staff.

Tom Brady , the franchise’s best player since 2001, took it upon himself to free up $9 million in cap space in order to allow the Patriots to retain the well-respected wide receiver. Alas, Welker sought to sign with the Denver Broncos and become an additional weapon for Peyton Manning . Now while a great deal was made of the Patriots acquiring Tim Tebow, which if anything, was more of a sign of desperation rather than an act of necessity . And this preposterous belief that Tebow , as a player given his resume` would be of benefit to a franchise such as the Jacksonville Jaguars , purely because of his popularity in the state of Florida, is simply asinine ! Tim Tebow, as a draw anywhere, is like to going to the circus simply out of curiosity . The novelty will soon wear off, as it will, concerning the under-achieving quarterback, even if he has Josh McDaniels as his offensive coordinator and quarterbacks` coach . In all honesty , Tebow could very well ending being one of the biggest busts in NFL history , and that is with due respect to the likes of Heath Shuler , Tim Couch , Vince Young , JaMarcus Russell , Akili Smith and Carson Palmer .

As to the upcoming season for the Patriots from their preseason schedule to their opening day regular season game , it will be interesting to see how this newly guise team will fare . At best , I cannot see the Patriots surpassing season`s 12-4 record/ and then the clarity of their play in the postseason , until what turned to be a disastrous showing against the Baltimore Ravens , where the opposing quarterback, Joe Flacco was simply at his very best . Flacco and his teammates , in that second-half display laid siege on a Patriots` defense that has been the franchise’s weakness over the past four seasons. If the team once again sows its fallibility, concerning its secondary is once again on display in spite of free agent acquisitions and their 2013 draft class could very well be a determining factor as to how things will play out for the New England Patriots.

If ever there was a moment for a college football coach to simply shut up and either tell the truth, rather than come across as a buffoon . Then clearly, Urban Meyer now seeking to distance himself from much of the trouble created during his tenure of the Florida Gators` football program . Meyer, suggested that a great many of the issues and incidents that took place, which saw numerous arrests , allegations of cheating , team rules` violations , and the criminal infractions , were all said to have taken place off campus, or as he denotes beyond the reach and scope of the campus authority . Perhaps, it is me , but Meyer is now taking liberties, in seeking to disparage his former employer . Having succeeded Jim Tressel at Ohio State , a program where Tressel was a conduit some of the most serious program and NCAA violations in recent collegiate athletics . The fact that Buckeyes AD Gene Smith and university President Dr. E Gordon Gee stood steadfastly by the then beleaguered and disgraced coach shows the type aloofness and malevolent corruption that is widespread and rampant across the landscape of college sports . Tressel repeatedly lied to the school’s trustees, as well as to Smith and Gee to the misdeeds of the players under his jurisdiction. .

E Gordon Gee, for his part, has been critical of anyone he deems beneath the Ohio State program . And it has been Gee`s ongoing itinerant and all too embarrassing tirades that could very well see him removed from his post as the school’s top administrator .

Does anyone now truly believe that the NCAA has the wherewithal to clean up almighty mess ? NCAA President Mark Emmert is seemingly powerless to actually do anything noteworthy as collegiate athletics top administrator, while seeking to strengthen the structure of his institution .

Well, the talk of the NBA world, has been the departure of Dwight Howard from the Los Angeles Lakers as an unrestricted free agent to sign with the Houston Rockets . Team owner, Leslie Alexander pulled out all of the stops along with head coach Kevin McHale , GM Daryl Morey and James Harden . The fact that the center made the decision to leave Los Angeles , is more than indication that Howard , did not fit on a team where he simply was not sure of his role under Mike DAntoni , head coach of the Los Angeles` franchise . To further emphasize , what even the most docile of Lakers` fans were simply unwilling to admit , has been the testy relationship between Dwight Howard and Kobe Bryant . Anyone who failed to acknowledge that fact , clearly chose to ignore the dichotomy between the two players. Bryant has been often described, as an egotistical, selfish and narcissistic individual who simply cares about no one but himself . That may well be true, but how would you describe Dwight Howard and the perception that fans now view the player under ?

James Harden , will now be joined by Dwight Howard, on a team that this past season , was one of the most explosive offenses in the league . Harden, further emphasized his growth as a player, while it can only be suggested that the player was sorely missed on an Oklahoma City Thunder team that fell short of expectations during the postseason . Kevin Martin , considered a serviceable player, it was clear that his insertion unto the team showed how sorely missed James Harden was said to be. Martin was not able to emulate the scoring prowess shown by the player he replaced, and to my mind, Thunder GM Sam Presti , erred, . when the player was allowed to leave the franchise prior to the start of this past season .

The Houston Rockets are well placed this upcoming season to make a solid run and perhaps be seen as one top contenders within the Western Conference . As to the financial commitment made by the Rockets may to their newest acquisition , it could very well be seen as one of the more ostentatious deals made in the NBA during this off-season.

At this point of the season , baseball will soon be celebrating their mid-season showcase event. The 2013 MLB All Star Game will be held at Citi-Field in Flushing, New York, with a New York crowd looking to celebrate in a big way. The talk seems to be whether or not the Los Angeles Dodgers` …. Yasiel Puig should be on the NL roster . While having an outstanding season , it does seem somewhat ridiculous that fans are calling for Puig`s player`s inclusion after a mere thirty-three games. Impressive stats , being what they are , but when assessing a Dodgers` team that as of Monday night , at two games under .500 with a 43-45 mark , good enough for second place in the NL West . The real issue now facing the team is whether they can win the division and guarantee themselves a postseason berth . It is clear , that after last season`s disappointment , Don Mattingly and his managerial staff may well be on the clock , before a decision is made concerning his future. It will be now, or never , for Mattingly and this high-priced of stars , and how they seek to redeem themselves .

Two years ago, the Milwaukee Brewers` Ryan Braun celebrated winning baseball`s biggest regular season individual honor in winning the NL MVP . Braun , a multiple All Star, and the best player on a Brewers` roster , for a franchise, that views the player as a homegrown hero . Ryan Braun`s name was associated with the stain of steroids , and from what appears to be the utter stupidity shown by the testing facility , in not properly storing the player`s test samples. Braun was able to escape a suspension. An arbitration hearing upheld Ryan Braun`s appeal to have his fifty-game for a first time offense. All along, in pleading his innocence, Braun felt that his actions paved the way the hearing to go his way, and to show that baseball was simply on a witch-hunt, as well over-reaching with their powers . A mere two years later, Braun, Alex Rodriguez , Nelson Cruz and a slew of other players are the focus of another investigation of rampant steroid use within the game. Once again, Bud Selig and his office , comes across looking like bumbling buffoons .

The claims made by the MLB commissioner, that baseball , has the most stringent of testing policy, is proving to be a fallacy . And with the latest admission by Biogenesis proprietor and founder Antony Bosch , that has supplied as many as sixty players with steroids , as well several other performance enhancing substances , does beg the question , what is it that baseball itself , is not doing ? And why is it , that they have failed so miserably to stem the tide of steroid abuse not only at the Major League Level but also at the Minor League Level , where the use of PED`s is even more widespread ?

Braun in the accompaniment of his agent Nev Balelo and an attorney , met with the investigators from MLB to discuss whether or not he ad at any time been supplied steroids or any other prohibitive substances banned by the league hierarchy . The player was said to be uncooperative, refusing to answer the five questions he was initially subjected to . When a further question posed as to his known association with Tony Bosch , Braun was once again unresponsive , and subsequently left the MLB headquarters , again, with his name being under a cloud of suspicion . Of the thirteen players, said to have met with the league`s investigators , eleven , are said to have initially cooperated , in answering some of the questions posed . As to what this may well mean , once the ongoing investigation reaches a finality . One can only speculate as to the course of action that may well be considered and taken , should Bud Selig and the MLB hierarchy members believe it appropriate to suspend these players for any length of time . The suspensions being considered are in the region of between fifty games to one hundred games , but it is rumored that the league would like to send a clear and strong message with a one hundred-game suspension , that would be the starting point for any punishment rendered . Any such penalties, are likely to wreak havoc upon the teams where many of these players are now assisting in their ball-clubs` title hopes . From my own standpoint , Bud Selig has simply dragged his feet with this process , albeit, that the US Justice Department is also investigating Bosch and his now defunct company . That being said , with the already haphazard handling of previous cases by the Justice Department in this specific arena , and that of baseball . My own misgivings, are that we are likely to see new levels of incompetency , beyond anything yet shown by Bud Selig and his minions .

New York Yankees` third baseman Alex Rodriguez is likely to meet with the league`s investigators prior to mid-season break for the All Star Game . Rodriguez undergoing rehab, has yet to make an appearance this season for the still struggling Yankees . The consensus seems to be , if the player is met with a 100 game suspension , then in all likelihood , his career with the franchise is likely to come to an abrupt end , with the front office , quite possibly seeking to void the remainder of the approximately $104 million still owed to Alex Rodriguez.

Given Rodriguez`s proclivity for being less than truthful. I truly believe that he too, will be uncooperative in this investigation , while still trying to proclaim his innocence in terms of any wrongdoing . As if we needed a reminder as to his first go-around concerning the use of PED`s . This now seems to be a dance that the fans have become accustomed to seeing , while we are not too sure what the outcome may well be . Bud Selig is now seeking to regain a great deal of power lost to the union . Yet my response would be , what the fuck does the MLBPA (union) care to begin with ? I mean, it is not as if they have at any time, sought to be at the forefront of ridding the game of illicit substances , in spite of ambiguous collective bargaining agreement .

  1. So Aaron Hernandez and his accomplices will now be fighting amongst themselves as to who will get the best deal available from the State Attorney General`s Office . No one wants to get fried , but they are more than willing to do 30 years to life and perhaps being someone`s bitch .

For his part Robert Kraft , he can continue blowing smoke up everyone`s @ss , as his credibility is now shot to hell .

So Dwight is now all chummy chummy with James Harden ? I wonder how long that bro-mance will last before Harden tells Dwight Howard to go ##ck himself and the horse he rode in on ?

Urban Meyer is a conceited son of a bi#ch , without any scruples , integrity or any damn character . Now , he is looking to cast blame elsewhere for is lack of oversight and the behavioral actions of his players .

Ryan Braun now has no wish to answer any questions concerning his involvement with the company Biogenesis . Braun , first insisted that he was a paid endorser of the company`s supplement products . Now we know entirely different, as the player and his agent Nev Balelo , in recent months have consistently changed their stories . So much so, that no one can believe anything that is liable to be uttered by Ryan Braun . .

As for the Cardinals Matt Holliday , now suggesting that he would like to know if the players now embroiled in this latest steroid scandal are guilty . Holliday should simply shut the fu#k up , because his dumb ass has never spoken out publicly on the matter , until now . Much like the vast majority of the players within the game , as not one of them has any fuc#ing credibility and that is a fact ! They ave all chosen to keep their mouths shut , like the pieces of fecal matter they are .

I for one , would simply like to see Brian Cashman void the remainder of Alex Rodriguez`s contract once and for all ! In the postseason , the player as been about as exciting as a fatal heart attack . And any return by him to assist the Yankees , may well be too little , too late .

If Bud Selig and the MLB hierarchy make the decision to suspend players for as many as 100 hundred games , then look for a contentious battle between the MLBPA (Players` Union) led by Michael Weiner and baseball`s governmental authorities. Weiner`s members may well be saying that they would like to know who the cheaters are , but in reality they would rater see this situation go away and simply die .

Antony Bosch , founder of the supplements` company Biogenesis states that he supplied as many as sixty players , but yet , MLB is said to be going after only twenty twenty-four players ? Something must be wrong Bud Selig`s figures .

Divisional and wildcard races could be severely altered if players such as Nelson Cruz , Alex Rodriguez , Bartolo Colon and Ryan Braun are suspended . If the evidence obtained under a subpoena via a federal warrant as well as the oral testimony given by Bosch under oath is that resounding , then those now questioning this all , are clearly too naive and stupid for their own good .

  2. Don`t get me wrong , I can understand the hype over Yasiel Puig but just because the guy has been spectacular for a period of a six to eight weeks . Is he really that deserving of a roster spot on the NL team for the All Star Game ? Were he playing for the Padres or Marlins , would there still be cries for his inclusion ?

Dodgers’ Yasiel Puig earns the role of villain from opponents

The hot young Dodgers outfielder and hitter feels the hate in Arizona. Manager Don Mattingly sees the young player straddling the line between attitude and arrogance.

    By Bill Plashcke, LA Times

PHOENIX — Just when the baseball world thought it had seen everything that Yasiel Puig could become, the Dodgers phenom has added yet another tool.

It’s not as overwhelming as his bat, or as strong as his arm, but it can be just as powerful — or powerfully destructive — as both.

The hot young outfielder and hitter is also now officially a villain.

It happened this week in Arizona, where the charging Dodgers swept through the first-place Diamondbacks against a backdrop of boos, accusations and rips.

It wasn’t Arizona hating on Los Angeles. It was Arizona hating on Puig.

It was folks in both the Chase Field stands and home dugout jeering the Dodgers’ 22-year-old magician for what they considered needless sleights of hand and crass tricks.

They hated the way he tossed his bat after even the mildest of hits. They hated how he growled at the pitcher even after walks. They hated how seemingly every bit of hustle was accompanied by a glare.

“He plays with a lot of arrogance,” said Diamondbacks pitcher Ian Kennedy.

They hated on him even though he had had no homers, no extra-base hits and no RBIs in the series. They hated on him because it’s become obvious in the last 35 games that Puig is about a lot more than numbers.

The kid is about an unbridled swagger that hasn’t been seen around the Dodgers since Manny Ramirez, the kind of swagger that enrages fans and distracts opponents. It is an attitude jolt that, if backed by good play, can turn a complacent club into champions. It is also an attitude jolt that can tear that same club apart.

The Dodgers, for now, are publicly looking on the bright side.

“I don’t mind a guy playing with a little attitude, honestly,” said Dodgers Manager Don Mattingly before his team’s 7-5 victory over the Diamondbacks on Wednesday to complete a three-game sweep. ”I played with Rickey Henderson, he was a guy who irritated a lot of people, but he was a pretty good player.”

Mattingly, however, knows there’s a line that kids should not cross, lines that separate villains from fools. Like everyone else on the Dodgers, they are holding their breath that Puig can successfully straddle that line.

The Diamondbacks and their fans are already convinced he has crossed it. The crowds here spoke with boos every time Puig came near a ball or a bat. The players openly acknowledged it in the clubhouse, expressing feelings that are surely shared throughout the league, because very few baseball players ever speak alone.

When Bryce Harper came into the Majors and his first few games and the hype was there also ,___________ the same calls were being made . Now look at Harper and the Nats and their standing in the league .

This situation is really about instant gratification more than anything else I believe , because the fans are now sick and tired of repeated stories of cheaters in the game , amongst players that one time held our attention and in some cases had our respect .

It is now time once and for all , for Bud Selig to send a strong message , rather than his damn continued idiocy of about the league`s steroid policy being strong and making proclamations about the health of the game from a financial standpoint . All of which is , and will remain a complete fallacy .

The Biogenesis story , did not come out of any work conducted by MLB , but from an in depth piece of investigative journalism being done by a small South Florida newspaper . Now it seems all of the major outlets are jumping on the bandwagon and trying to make this story their very own . No greater culprit than ESPN , themselves . Yet morons such as Tim Kurkjian , Buster Olney and even an ass wipe like Curt Schilling , can`t even provide the viewer with any type of analysis from their own standpoint , instead all three remain as banal , as usual .

I`m a die-hard Pats` fan and even I could see that Robert Kraft`s statements were nothing more than window dressing , because he knew that the franchise would take a major hit over this scandal . I mean for what other reason would they have organized that Aaron Hernandez jersey return , in order to exchange or purchase team memorabilia of a fans` choice ? It was damage-control being done by the Patriots` owner with regard to this specific matter .

Kraft , Bill Belichick , GM Nick Caserio knew exactly what they were getting when the franchise drafted the former Gators` tight end in 2010 .

As for Urban Meyer and the Gators` Jeremy Foley , those two individuals are contemptible individuals . Meyer is a self absorbed scum-bag ! And Foley is simply a scum sucking piece of crap , who still to this day presides over an all too corrupt program . Since Steve Spurrier left Florida , their football program has become one of the most contemptible in all of College Football (D1) . That is a fact !

Now up to bat in steroids scandal: A-Rod’s cousin …

      BY JULIE K. BROWN
      jbrown@MiamiHerald.com

Of all the names tied to the burgeoning major league steroids scandal, Yuri Sucart is among the most obscure.

And yet, as cousin, go-fer and onetime steroid deliveryman to Yankees superstar Alex Rodriguez, Sucart could be pivotal to Major League Baseball’s efforts to discipline its highest-paid player.

On Wednesday, Sucart may have thrown a wrench into MLB’s anti-doping case and, in doing so, exposed the soft underbelly of MLB’s legal strategy to punish players for their alleged use of banned substances obtained from a South Florida anti-aging clinic.

At a court hearing, Sucart’s attorney, Jeffrey Sonn, tried to persuade Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Ronald Dresnick to block MLB from making Sucart give a deposition in the civil suit filed in April by Commissioner Bud Selig against Biogenesis, the now-defunct Coral Gables clinic.

The suit alleges that Anthony Bosch, the clinic’s founder, and his partners, supplied A-Rod, Ryan Braun and more than a dozen other players with performance-enhancing drugs, knowing that by using the drugs, the players would be violating baseball’s collective bargaining agreement.

Sucart is not a party to the litigation, but MLB is using the lawsuit as a means to obtain evidence from him and other witnesses they believe can boost their efforts. Thus far, baseball’s probe has been largely focused on information provided by Bosch, a self-styled “biochemist” who once pretended to be a doctor of sorts and prescribed illicit performance enhancing drugs, allegedly to some of baseball’s most notable players. While at first he denied his role in the doping scandal, he later cut a deal with league officials and is now cooperating as part of an agreement in which he is receiving indirect compensation through legal fees and other expenses.

Sucart did not appear in court Wednesday, but Sonn employed an unexpected legal tactic in an attempt to derail MLB’s lawsuit, arguing the case should be thrown out because the players’ collective bargaining agreement — which is the basis for the lawsuit — is governed by federal, not state, law.

“Judge, what they [MLB] are trying to do is to use this case to get the evidence to discipline their players under the collective bargaining agreements, and the cases are very clear, this court lacks jurisdiction and there can be no discovery,’’ said Sonn of Fort Lauderdale.

In the end, Dresnick admitted that Sonn’s argument had some merit, but said that his client — as a third party — had no legal standing to challenge the lawsuit. As a result, Sucart has 20 days to appear for a deposition, pending any new motions on the lawsuit.

The judge, however, indicated he was puzzled by the fact that the defendants named in the suit, including several ballplayers, haven’t raised a similar challenge.

Matthew I. Menchel, MLB’s Miami-based attorney, declined to comment after the hearing.

MLB investigators do not have the power to subpoena witnesses or documents on their own, so are using the civil suit to obtain testimony and evidence. They have also resorted to buying records from Bosch’s associates, including one who admitted he had had a falling out with Bosch over money he was owed. MLB investigators say they are gathering other evidence to corroborate Bosch’s records.

“Baseball has a big problem on their hands and that’s why they want to subpoena people — because Bosch is not credible at all,’’ Sonn said.

The Padres in terms of their ownership down the years have simply obfuscated their responsibilities . Now under new owners , the franchise is simply no better off , by way of talent , management , and from an executive standpoint in terms a general manager .

The San Diego Padres are a bad team going nowhere and that is borne by their standing in the division , the NL West , which this season has been goddamn awful .

All of the hype over Puig may well be valid , but what now happens if in the second half of the season and the Dodgers suddenly implodes ? If they fail to make the postseason , then Don Mattingly and Mark McGwire (batting coach) will have to be shown the door . With that type of payroll and talent there is no way in hell that the team should be struggling the way that they have done with a sub . 500 record .

Name me one instance were baseball has done anything that has been truly beneficial for its sport ? Other than the Jackie Robinson social experiment , that has actually been about it . Successive commissioners including Bart Giammatti and Faye Vincent , have to be seen as incessantly stupid , along with the owners within the game , past and present .

I mean have you ever heard the late George Steinbrenner , or in the present , Arte Moreno , Jeffrey Loria , l David Glass , or any other team owner or the managers speak out in public against the proliferation and widespread use of PED`s within baseball ? Yet , the vast majority of clueless fans are calling for changes , that in all essence will never take place .

The real problem is not just the players but te damn lack of leadership coming from Bud Selig and the MLB hierarchy . Until the fans become cognizant of that fact , there is nothing that is likely to be done . Their anger should be directed at the league hierarchy and the shameless lackluster union and its leadership .

As I have already said, when you have the players themselves , high-profiled stars such as Derek Jeter , Albert Puols , Torii Hunter and others not calling the cheaters “ out “ . Then you might as well abandon a sport that as no moral fiber , integrity or redeeming quality to it, at all. I mean what is the sport teaching young kids nowadays ? It surely isn`t about being competitive or playing by any rules whatsoever . So no more piety or preaching about the that changes should be made . Selig has proven that he as no stomach for a fight and is likely to back down if the union seeks legal recourse within the US Federal Courts System . Bud Selig is a gutless and spineless piece of crap !

Baseball simply cannot get out of its own way , because its sheer mendacity and absolute stupidity .

Selig, left , and Michael Weiner

Michael Weiner succeeded Donald Fehr as head of the Players` Union and absolutely noting as changed , as the union remains confrontational . And that situation is not about to change anytime soon . It seems to be something that most , simply do not understand .

  7. Problem I see, if no one else made mention. The idol worship these guys get alongwith more
money than the total wealth of some countries, makes then think they are gods, not subject to
our mundane laws and can do no wrong. Course it starts when they play early sports…all the
glad-handing gives then a sense of entitlement.
Then various teams basically kiss the asses of these guys……

When you have the managers , team owners and general managers caving in to the whims of the players , but specifically the union (MLBPA) , this is what tends to happen . Like I said in the piece, the vast majority of the fans are anal retentive and have become irrelevant and damn stupid . I mean what type of idiot must you have to be to condone players cheating , but then be all against drug dealers and their selling to kids ? What difference is there , when the actions of both are actually unlawful and a criminal act ?

Consider also , MLBPA Executive Director Michael Weiner , is considering legal action against the MLB hierarchy for what he (Weiner) and the union believes are MLB overreaching with regard to their powers as well as leaking the information concerning the Biogenesis scandal . If that doesn`t indicate to you that the union doesn`t care about its members , and cheating . Then why should anyone now take the game and the players seriously, any longer ?

      Michael Weiner critical of leaks

NEW YORK — The head of the players’ union said Thursday baseball’s drug agreement could be undermined by leaks to the media about whether players are cooperating with an investigation by the commissioner.

Alex Rodriguez and Ryan Braun are among the players being interviewed as part of Major League Baseball’s inquiry into Biogenesis, a closed Florida anti-aging clinic accused of distributing banned performance-enhancing drugs.

“Repeated leaks threaten to harm the integrity” of the drug agreement, union executive director Michael Weiner said in a statement. He added that the leaks “call into question the required level of confidentiality needed to operate a successful prevention program.”

Braun is among several players who refused to answer questions about their dealings with Biogenesis, sources told ESPN’s “Outside the Lines.” Braun was interviewed last month and Rodriguez is scheduled to be interviewed Friday, sources confirmed.

“The players want a clean game and they demand a testing program that is not only the toughest in professional sports, but one that guarantees each player due process rights accompanied by strict confidentiality provisions,” Weiner said.

The union said it has no information about the source of the leaks or any indication that MLB is the source.

MLB has spent most of the year investigating about 20 players for their links to Biogenesis, including Rodriguez and Braun, both former MVPs. The Miami New Times reported in January the clinic had distributed banned drugs to major leaguers.

Braun and Rodriguez have said they didn’t do anything that merits discipline.

MLB aims to complete the player interviews in mid-July, but is not sure whether it will meet that schedule. Management then will have to decide on possible discipline, which is likely to be challenged in grievances before an arbitrator.

“It would be unfortunate if anyone prejudged the results of the investigation based on unsubstantiated leaks that are a clear violation of the JDA,” Weiner said, referring to baseball’s joint drug agreement.

Rodriguez has said he used performance-enhancing drugs while with Texas from 2001 to 2003 but has denied using them since.

Braun’s 50-game suspension was overturned last year by an arbitrator who ruled the Milwaukee star’s urine sample was mishandled by the drug collector.

Michael Weiner is and will remain a pompous ass , much like is predecessor , Donald Fehr , who himself , is now ruining hockey as head of the players` union .

Bud Selig continues to do a piss poor job as commissioner and is clearly out of his dept wen dealing with the issue of the widespread use of PED`s and cheating within the game .

Fan adoration asides and the media placing athletes on a pedestal , what the fans clearly want to see are , athletes with ability , integrity and honesty . Not a bunch of self-absorbed individuals , who think themselves above the law .

Alex Rodriguez in his recent rehab stint here in the Tampa Bay area , was surrounded by throngs of kids with their parents seeking the player`s autograph . If that is not an indication to their own stupidity as well as the fact that these parents are poor role models , then what is ?

In your honest opinion , who is it that creates the idol worship of athletes ? Is it the press , fans , agents , league hierarchies or the respective franchises and how they seek to market the players ? Or is it a matter of perception and how we ought to see these athletes and teams in general ?

  8. As if we need any further proof as to the idiocy of today`s NFL player . The Patriots` Alfonzo Dennard is clearly delusional if he thinks that we te fans should take him at his word concerning his DUI arrest , and he is maintaining that he was not under the influence of alcohol . This being the same individual who assaulted a law enforcement officer , but has yet to serve his sentence (not due until March 2014) .

New England Patriots cornerback Alfonzo Dennard was arrested and cited Thursday for driving under the influence. But Dennard’s camp paints a different picture of what happened before he was arrested by the Lincoln (Neb.) Police Department.

Dennard’s camp says he was not asked to take a blood test and that he did not “fail” the field sobriety test. NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reported Friday that Dennard attempted to blow for a Breathalyzer at least twice, according to a source who heard specifics of the cornerback’s side of the incident. That number was believed to be below the legal limit, but his attempts to take the test didn’t register because he didn’t blow hard enough into the device to officers’ qualifications. He was not asked to take a blood test.

The source told Rapoport the results of the field sobriety test did not indicate someone under the influence. Dennard did not “fail” it, he was told.

The police department said field sobriety tests were done and that Dennard would not provide an adequate breath sample. The outcome of the tests were not released by police. Dennard also was cited for refusal of a chemical test and straddling lane lines.

When asked about the version of events from Dennard’s camp, Lincoln Police Department spokeswoman Katie Flood reiterated to NFL.com and NFL Network on Friday that the officers involved had “probable cause” to believe Dennard was driving under the influence of alcohol. But she would not give any details of how the tests went, saying department policy and other state guidelines discouraged the release of such details.

The Patriots released the following statement after Dennard’s arrest: “The New England Patriots are extremely disappointed to learn of Alfonzo Dennard’s arrest. We take this matter very seriously and are working to get more information on the incident.”

Dennard previously was sentenced to 30 days in jail and 24 months of probation after he was found guilty of assaulting a police officer in Lincoln. He was scheduled to serve that jail sentence beginning in March 2014.

    ============================================

Dennard knows that a second offense , essentially guarantees him a jail sentence , hence the reason for is statement , as he looks to cloud the issue and thereby seeking some sort of agreement with the district attorney on a sentence without jail time for a misdemeanor charge .
